Founded by award-winning Director, Producer, and Editor Tom Prather — who launched his career photographing Van Halen on tour — The Blue Wave has spent nearly 30 years making content that travels as well as it performs: national television commercials, brand films, and concert photography from stages across the country.
Wherever your brand needs to be, we'll meet you there. We make it — and we make sure it works.

Chief WaveMaker
Tom Prather, a Maryland native, founded The Blue Wave to produce original television programming. It didn't take long for him to earn a reputation as the guy who sees things differently — and for a two-word mantra to stick: Why not?
Exhibit A is how he broke into the business at all. Prather's first gig was shooting Van Halen — no credentials, no connections, just a few creative phone calls and a stack of letterhead. He talked his way onto the tour. Why not?
From there, he became a sought-after editor and director for national television commercials and long-form projects. Then he launched the Letterbox Film Festival — the world's first monthly film festival — after landing Cabo Wabo tequila as title sponsor. Bigger stage, same instinct: Why not?

SO KIDS SOAR/Dreams For Kids DC
So Kids SOAR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN: 61-1716117) that empowers youth with physical and developmental disabilities to Strive, Own, Achieve, and Realize their potential. Through free adaptive athletic, recreational, and skill-building programs across the Greater DC area, SKS helps kids discover that a disability doesn't get to decide what they're capable of.
Tom Prather served on the board for 13 years. Across that time, The Blue Wave donated production and branding services — telling the organization's story on video to build recognition and drive the donations that keep every program free for the families who count on them.
The programs run entirely on donations, and every dollar goes straight to the kids. If this mission moves you the way it's moved us, you can give at sokidssoar.org.
